Smile Shop Tampa

Smile Shop Review: Smile Direct Club

I wanted to share my Smile Shop review in hopes to inspire others to take a leap of faith and change how they feel about their smile. After an 8 month treatment plan, I was ecstatic about the results. My teeth were so close to being perfectly straight!

My smile was so close to perfection, but even though I was happy with the results, I wanted that perfection. So I decided to get refinements.

My dilemma was… did I really want to go through the whole ordering of a new impression kit, taking the impressions, sending them back and waiting for my new treatment plan to be complete? Not if there was a better way.

That’s when I heard about these new Smile Shops popping up all over. When I found out there was a Smile Shop in Tampa, Florida, I was jumping off the walls with excitement. That was only 30 minutes away from me!

My Smile Shop Review

What’s a Smile Shop?

A Smile Shop is a great alternative for those who aren’t fans of doing impressions kits themselves at home. I had no issue with my impression kit, but if there was an easier and faster way to get started, I was all ears. I was able to easily make an appointment online, with availability as soon as the next day.

How Does the Smile Shop Work?

At your local Smile Shop, you can get your teeth scanned by a wand that glides over each tooth. It’s completely painless, and captures the complete contour of your gums and teeth. It creates a 3D image of your entire mouth, which is a little freaky to see in my opinion!

They have a screen next to you where you can view your 3D scan as it’s being captured. The entire process was very quick, about 20 minutes. Once your teeth have been scanned, your 3D images are sent directly to the licensed dentist assigned to you.

Smile Shop vs at Home Impression Kit

If you don’t have a local Smile Shop in your area, then there’s nothing wrong with ordering an impression kit to get started. It came with detailed instructions, and there’s plenty of YouTube videos that show you how to do it.

It’s the same type of impressions they do at the orthodontist, except when you’re doing it yourself, you don’t have to worry about swallowing the puddy!

However, if you do have a Smile Shop near you, knowing what I know now, I would choose that option. This is because the 3D scan is much more detailed & faster than the impression kit.

Most reviews I’ve read said when they received their aligners after getting scanned at a Smile Shop, they fit tight and snug. They didn’t need any trimming around the edges, which is something you might have to do to prevent irritation to your gums.

What doesn’t change, is the free Glo whitening kit! Whether you go to a Smile Shop or use an impression kit, you still get free Glo whitening gel and a Glo light with your aligners!

Smile Shop vs Impression Kit

How Long Does it Take to Receive your Smile Plan from the Smile Shop?

You receive your smile plan MUCH faster when going to the Smile Shop vs doing impressions at home. I actually received my smile plan the next morning! When you do the impression kit at home, it takes about 4-8 weeks to receive your smile plan.

At the Smile Shop in Tampa, I was able to get my 3D scan complete, as well as my smile plan created and approved within 24 hours. Way faster then the my first time around.

Remember, when I first started there was no Smile Shops around me. When I completed my first smile plan and decided to get refinements, I chose to go to the new Smile Shop that had opened up 3 days prior in Tampa.

The other big difference between visiting the Smile Shop to get a 3D scan vs getting the impression kit to do at home is the cost.

Smile Shop 3D Scan Cost

Guest what??? It’s free! There’s no charge to get a 3D scan at your local smile shop. When you order an impression kit, it costs $99, without my coupon code. With my coupon code, you get 50% off.

Of course, the cost of the impression kit will go towards the purchase of your aligners if you approve your smile plan. If you would like to get your aligners super fast, you can complete a Fast Track form to pay for them once your smile plan is complete.

Payment Options for your Smile Plan

The price, to me, is still unbelievable. My parents paid close to $6,000 for me to have braces in high school. Then another $1,000 to get adjustable retainers 2 years later after they shifted. (I was bad at wearing my retainers!)

Smile Direct Club offers a few different payment options, that way you can choose the best one that fits your budget. Also, you may be surprised to hear that some dental insurance plans will reimburse you for a portion of the cost.  They also accept FSA, HSA and Care Credit.

If you want to pay for it all at once, the cost is $1,850. (WAY better than $6,000!!) If paying it all up front is not financially feasible for you, like it wasn’t for me, then your next best option in SmilePay.

With SmilePay, there’s no credit checks or forms to fill out. Its Smile Direct Clubs in-house financing option. The down payment is only $250, then $80 a month for 24 months.

It does save you some money if you pay it all up front, somewhere around $320. However, most people don’t have a chunk of money to pay, so this gives them an alternative option.
